In Champagne, organic viticulture continues to grow
Over the past 25 years, organic viticulture in Champagne has seen remarkable growth, from just 400 hectares committed 10 years ago to nearly 3,000 hectares in 2023. The new president of the Association des Champagnes Biologiques, Jérôme Bourgeois, praised the viticulture structures that have chosen to grow without synthetic insecticides, herbicides or fungicides, thereby respecting biodiversity, water, soil and the health of the general public and consumers.

According to data from Bio en Grand Est, Champagne currently has 649 estates engaged in organic viticulture, an increase of 51 estates since 2021. This represents around 4.3% of Champagne farms, with 481 located in the Marne, 126 in Aube and 42 in Aisne. Champagne now has nearly 3,000 hectares of organic vineyards, 1,815 of which are being converted.
In addition, 20% of Champagne farms are certified Organic, Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC) or High Environmental Value (HVE). This is the case with 100% of the surface areas of the two GFV Champenois de France Valley vehicles and 78% of the surface areas of Foncière Champenoise France Valley I.
